5th fib UK DISC 2017

This half day conference will provide practitioners with a valuable update on the latest developments in concrete technology and their application to structural engineering. Speakers from industry and academia will cover fibre-reinforced cementitious composites, special concrete mixes and modelling complex geometry.

The 5th fib UK DISC 2017 will take place on 29 November 2017 in London, UK. The speakers include fib member Prof Marco di Prisco (Politecnico di Milano), who will explore some convincing design applications, discussing the open questions, the limits and the potentials of Fibre-Reinforced Concrete.

Mr Ignacio Escobar (Tarmac) will examine the value of special concretes in buildings and provide an update on recent uses of special mixes.

Dr John Orr (University of Cambridge) will describe results of an Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council funded research project that aimed to completely replace internal steel reinforcement with a knitted composite reinforcement cage made from carbon fibre tows.

Mr Charlie Scott (Waterman) will provide insight into the rationale behind the design and the lateral thinking used to efficiently design the John Lewis Storein Leeds.
