We have the great pleasure to host the fib Symposium 2027 for the first time in Saxony, Germany under the motto “ReThink Concrete: Structures for Sustainable Transformation” We will provide an international forum for scientists, engineers, industrial partners and stakeholders. We invite you to present and discuss the newest state-of-the-practice, recent innovations, and future perspectives in terms of modern building and design, sustainability, structural health monitoring and resiliency in civil engineering. In addition, we offer valuable networking opportunities, a diverse trade exhibition, and exciting technical tours.
Early summer is a wonderful time to visit one of Europe's greenest cities. Hardly any other city in Germany combines so many spectacular attractions as Dresden. Dresden is known as ‘Florence on the Elbe’, originally mainly because of its art collections. Its Baroque and Mediterranean-influenced architecture and its picturesque and climatically favorable location in the Elbe Valley contributed significantly to this. A historic old town awaits you with Frauenkirche, Zwinger, Semperoper und over 50 museums.
In addition, the city has established itself as an important center for technology and science, particularly in the fields of microelectronics and semiconductor technology. Dresden is known for the Silicon Saxony innovation network and hosts major companies in the chip industry. There is a close link between business and research, and the location is synonymous with future technologies such as 5G/6G, robotics, artificial intelligence, and electromobility.
Last but not least, TUD Dresden Technical University, founded in 1828, has a long-standing tradition in teaching and research. Since 2012, it has been one of the eleven German Universities of Excellence and is one of the leading and most dynamic research institutions in Germany, and this also applies to civil engineering. This Excellence status has initiated a dynamic change process at TUD and supports more interdisciplinary and international, attracting outstanding researchers from all over the world. One of the civil engineers' flagship projects is the CUBE, the world's first concrete building that is completely reinforced with non-metallic materials. Further, globally visible research is being conducted in the areas of sustainable concretes, innovative modeling approaches, practical and predictive maintenance of structures, and the utilization of modern digital technologies.
We invite you to join us for an unforgettable time in Dresden!
