Durability Workshop, Guimaraes, Portugal

fib and the University of Minho will hold seminar on the durability of concrete structures on 8 May 2014 in Guimaraes, Portugal. Durability is a key component in the sustainability of concrete structures and serves a vital role in the design, construction and rehabilitation of these structures. This first of its kind seminar will provide unique access to the experts and work of fib Commission 5, "Structural service life aspects", along with topics from these experts' individual research and work applying durability principles to practice. Several distinguished local speakers will also participate and provide their insight into the local industry.

New National Member Group in fib: Tunisia

fib is pleased to welcome Tunisia as a new National Member Group in fib, with the secretariat held by the Université de Tunis El Manar. The Head of Delegation is Dr. Atef Daoud of the Ecole nationale d'ingénieurs de Gabès. Prof. Karim Miled of the Université de Tunis El Manar acts as Deputy.

This latest addition brings fib's national members to a total of 43. The National Member Groups (NMG) and the General Assembly of delegates who represent them play an essential role in the functioning and governance of fib. NMGs also serve as a contact point for fib in their respective countries, so that their local community of engineers can have regular access to information about the association's publications and events, as well as a channel for national views to be fed back to fib for discussion and further development.

Structural Concrete, March 2014

The March 2014 issue of the Structural Concrete Journal is now available to fib members via the Wiley Online Library. Topics addressed in this issue are the long-term properties of recycled aggregate concrete, resistance of reinforced concrete members with hollow circular cross-sections, strengthening a 100-year-old reinforced concrete dome, reliability analysis of RC beams strengthened for torsion with carbon fibre composites, staggered lap joints for tension reinforcement, shear in concrete structures subjected to dynamic loads, early-age behaviour of precast concrete immersed tunnel based on degree of hydration concept, structural behaviour and deformation patterns in loaded plain concrete ground-supported slabs, and non-linear analysis of statically indeterminate SFRC columns.

fib members can access the articles by logging on to the fib website and then going to the "Members only" section. Under the item "Structural Concrete Journal", click on the "Wiley Online Library" link to access the journal issues. You can then go the table of contents of the September issue and download the individual PDF files of the articles.
