Abstract:

The fib journal Structural Concrete was first published in 2000. It evolved to an international journal with a high impact factor, amounting to 3.0 in 2023 and with more than 1’000 submissions per year. The fib’s motto is "A bridge between research and practice" and Structural Concrete is an important bridge in this sense.

However, in recent years, research papers have become the majority and practical papers have become scarce. The Editorial Board has been trying to increase the number of practical papers for many years. As the impact factor of Structural Concreteimproved, this trend has become more pronounced.

In this context and since the journal has been published online only since 2023, we have decided to publish a print version of the collection of practical papers and short project notes published in Structural Concrete in recent years. It will be published once a year, under the title “Design & Construction”, separately from Structural Concrete. In the future, “Design & Construction, Concrete Structures” will also include good practical papers published in the fib Symposium and Congress Proceedings. It will also be possible to submit papers directly to “Design & Construction” and invited papers are planned.

The Editorial Board will continue to develop “Design & Construction” to make it even more useful to fib members. It is hoped that this initiative will further strengthen the bridge between research and practice and increase the potential of the fib’s initiatives.

We would like to thank all fib members for their understanding of this initiative and sincerely ask for your continued cooperation.
